Application

The total number of course participants including speakers is limited to 250, to promote closer interactions between participants.
With the exception of FEBS Registration Grant applicants, registration must be paid until the deadline set in the registration confirmation email. Students and postdocs are eligible for FEBS Registration Grants.

How to register

Submit your application by:

• 18 January 2027 — FEBS Registration Grant applications
• 31 January 2027 — Early-bird registration
• 31 March 2027 — Late registration
• 30 April 2027 — Abstract submission deadline

1. Complete your registration order

Complete and submit a registration order through the registration and abstract submission portal on this website.

Once your order has been submitted, you will receive an automated “Order received” email containing further instructions and a PDF copy of your order.

2. Upload your supporting documents

Postdoctoral researchers who obtained their PhD less than five years ago, PhD students, and MSc students must upload their supporting documents during registration.

Combine all documents into one file. Accepted formats are PDF, ZIP, and RAR.

The file must include:

1. Letter of recommendation from your laboratory head or supervisor, including their name, institutional affiliation, and contact details
2. Motivation and research interests statement, explaining your reasons for applying to the meeting (maximum 300 words)
3. Concise CV (maximum two pages)
4. Proof of current status, such as:

• • an official enrolment certificate for MSc or PhD students; or
  • an institutional letter or other official document confirming postdoctoral status and the date on which the PhD was awarded

Additional documents for FEBS Registration Grant applicants

Applicants for a FEBS Registration Grant must also include:

1. A valid certificate of membership of a FEBS Constituent Society
2. Proof of age and identity, such as a copy of a valid passport or national identity card showing the applicant’s date of birth
3. A copy of the submitted abstract

The proof of status included in the application must clearly confirm that the applicant meets the relevant eligibility requirements.

The abstract must be included in the supporting-document file and submitted separately through the “My abstract” tab in the portal.

Only complete and eligible applications received by 18 January 2027 will be considered for a FEBS Registration Grant. Further information on eligibility and required documentation is available on the Grants page.

3. Submit your abstract

Submit your abstract through the “My abstract” tab in the registration and abstract submission portal.

Abstract submission is optional for general registration but strongly encouraged, as it supports the participant-selection process and facilitates scientific exchange and networking during the meeting. An abstract is required for consideration for an oral, flash, or poster presentation.

Abstract submission is mandatory for all FEBS Registration Grant applicants.

Notification

You will be notified of the outcome of your application maximum by mid February 2027 (for early bird registrations) / mid April 2027 (for late registrations). Accepted applicants must then pay the relevant registration fee as set out in the table below. More details on registration fee payment will be included in your outcome notification, and key points are also given in the terms and conditions.

Registration fees

Registration fees include access to the scientific sessions, a name badge, certificate of attendance, book of abstracts, conference meals and refreshment breaks. Residential registration fees also include accommodation and breakfast at the MH Atlântico Congress Centre, as specified below. The Offsite registration fee does not include accommodation or breakfast. Travel costs are not covered.

*Accommodation and breakfast are not included in the Offsite registration fee.

Terms and Conditions

By registering for the event, participants (also referred to as 'you') are entering an agreement with the Course Organizer(s), and you are indicating acceptance to the terms and conditions set out below. All course participants must adhere to the course's code of conduct.

Registration fee

The registration Fee for participants covers:

• Access to all scientific programme sessions
• Meals and refreshments as set out above
• Accommodation & breakfast at the MH Atlântico Congress Centre, from 6 to 11 June 2027, and as set out on the Venue/Accommodation page
• Name badge, printed materials and certificate of attendance

Travel costs are not covered by the registration fee.

Methods of payment

Payments can be made by credit card or bank transfer; details will be included in your outcome notification email. 

Bank charges are the responsibility of the participant and should be paid at source. Your Name, Surname and Order ID must be indicated on the transaction receipt of the bank transfer.

Following the payment, receipt of the transaction must be sent via email to info@sphingolipidbiology2027.febsevents.org. Proof of payment must be received before the stated deadline. 

A confirmation notification will be sent to you when organizers receive the fund and confirm your registration in the system. If you do not receive confirmation within 5 business days after sending your proof of payment / receipt of transaction, please contact info@sphingolipidbiology2027.febsevents.org. 

Registration cancellation & refund policy

All registration cancellation requests should be sent to info@sphingolipidbiology2027.febsevents.org in writing. For cancellation requests received on or before 15 February 2027, the full payment, less bank charges, will be refunded; for cancellation requests received on and after 16 February 2027, the full amount will be charged and no refunds will be made. No cash refunds will be made for credit card payments in the case of cancellation.

Travel insurance

You should seek and follow the advice of your government and of the host country (e.g., regarding visa requirements) before registering for the course and before booking travel and travelling to the course. You are solely responsible for making your own appropriate travel and other insurance arrangements before travelling. The Course Organizers and FEBS shall not be liable to you for any losses incurred.

Modification and cancellation of the event

The Course Organizers are intending to run the course as a physical meeting, but if they decide at any time that it is not possible to continue with a physical event due to pandemic or other such restrictions, the course may be postponed or held as an online meeting. The Course Organizers will give you as much advance notice as possible if such changes are necessary. The Course organizers reserve the right to modify the course programme, whether physical or online, which is published as an indication only.

If postponement or a virtual event is not possible, and the course is cancelled, the Course Organizers will endeavour to reimburse as much of the registration fee as possible. Similarly, if the course is converted to an online format, they will endeavour to reimburse as much of the accommodation element of the registration fee as possible. In both cases, such reimbursements will depend on the timing of such a cancellation/modification and organizational costs. Organizers may cancel the course as a result of circumstances outside of their reasonable control, including (but not limited to) pandemic, natural disaster, adverse weather conditions, fire or closure of airports. Where possible, they will endeavour to provide reasonable advance notice of any such cancellation.

Neither FEBS nor the Course Organizers shall be held liable for any other costs or losses incurred.

Disclaimer

The Course organizers take all reasonable care in making arrangements, and shall in no case be liable for acts or omissions in the event of injury, damage, loss, accident, delay or irregularity of any kind whatsoever during arrangements organized through contractors. Hotel and transportation services are subject to the terms and conditions under which they are offered to the general public.

In the absence of any negligence or other breach of duty by the Course Organizers or FEBS, these parties shall not be responsible for any bodily injury, illness, death or property damages (including theft) sustained by participants during the course.

In any event, neither the Course Organizers nor FEBS accept liability for damages or costs in the event of bodily injury, death, property damage, illness, disruption to travel plans and costs incurred as a result of events outside of their reasonable control, including (but not limited to) pandemic, natural disaster, adverse weather conditions, fire or closure of airports.

Governing law

Any dispute resulting from the above terms and conditions will be subject to the Portuguese law, and by accepting these terms you are submitting yourself to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Portugal.
