Dear colleagues and friends,

Sphingolipids were once viewed primarily as structural components of cellular membranes. Today, they are recognized as active organizers of cellular architecture and function: shaping membrane properties, controlling lipid asymmetry and trafficking, coordinating communication between organelles, integrating metabolic and environmental signals, and influencing cellular fate. At the same time, advances in lipidomics, chemical biology, spatial mass spectrometry, biosensors, and high-resolution imaging are revealing the sphingolipid landscape with unprecedented precision and opening new avenues for understanding its roles in physiology and disease.

Against this rapidly evolving scientific background, the 4th FEBS Special Meeting on Sphingolipid Biology: Architects of the Cellular Landscape will provide an international forum to present and discuss the latest developments in sphingolipid research. The scientific programme will span the technologies transforming the field, membrane organization and organelle communication, metabolic regulation and cellular decision-making, and the contribution of disrupted sphingolipid networks to disease and therapy.

Scientific sessions and interactive discussions led by prominent researchers, together with poster and oral communications, flash presentations, and contributions from established investigators, early-career researchers, and students, will create an ideal environment for active participation, close scientific exchange, and new collaborations.

The meeting will take place from 6–11 June 2027 at the MH Atlântico Congress Centre in Peniche, Portugal, where science and community will come together by the Atlantic.
